Dr. Katrin Schmidt is in charge of making sure all team members understand their impact on the client-and-pet experience to ensure a better outcome for all. She was born and raised in Germany in a rural mountain setting. She enjoyed horseback riding and country living at an early age. In fact, she spent most of her childhood working with animals including horses. Training horses exposed her to many of the behaviour principles we apply to most species, including humans. As a teenager, she lived in Dallas, Texas, and Hudson, Quebec.
Dr. Schmidt has always had a passion for medicine, science, and technology. Her interest and experience in solving complex problems with new and unique ways led her to attend the Veterinary College in Guelph. Veterinary medicine seemed just a little bit more challenging than human medicine or computer science.
Since graduating with a BSc. in 1991 and a DVM in 1993, Dr. Schmidt—along with her husband, Dr. Bolton—has been a veterinary practice owner since 2000. She co-founded the Barrie Veterinary Emergency Clinic in 2001. As primary patient care coordinator and hospital administrator, it was important for her to be adequately trained in patient and client care as well as business needs. So in 2004, she completed her Certificate of Veterinary Practice Managers diploma and most recently graduated from the MBA program at Lakehead University.
With her work experience in veterinary community services, she is able to help clients and members of the team with personal and professional challenges and dreams. Helping others succeed in improving pet health and strengthening the human animal bond continues to be a rewarding experience. As a constant learner, she also enjoys educating and coaching others.
Dr. Schmidt is very fortunate to have her immediate family residing in the Barrie and Orillia area. She lives with her husband, Dr. Bolton; their two children; and their Doberman and ponies in lovely Horseshoe Valley.
