He grew up with lots of pets and spent a lot of time working on neighboring farms. Dr. Bolton has attended many extra courses on general and orthopedic surgery, dentistry and oral surgery.

Dr. Bolton and Dr. Schmidt have two kids, Lauren and Carter. They also have a Doberman named Stella, a donkey named Moritz, two ponies named Foxy and Scout, and Dr. Bolton’s favorite pet, a guinea pig named Twinkle Toes. Dr. Katrin Schmidt

Hospital Administrator and Chief Veterinary Director

Dr. Katrin Schmidt is in charge of making sure all team members understand their impact on the client-and-pet experience to ensure a better outcome for all. She was born and raised in Germany in a rural mountain setting. She enjoyed horseback riding and country living at an early age. In fact, she spent most of her childhood working with animals including horses. Training horses exposed her to many of the behaviour principles we apply to most species, including humans. As a teenager, she lived in Dallas, Texas, and Hudson, Quebec.

Since graduating with a BSc. in 1991 and a DVM in 1993, Dr. Schmidt—along with her husband, Dr. Bolton—has been a veterinary practice owner since 2000. She co-founded the Barrie Veterinary Emergency Clinic in 2001.
